Three things decide whether a Jersey move works, and none of them is the removals van.
Your residential status. Which housing that status actually lets you occupy. And the order the paperwork is done in.
Almost everyone underestimates the second one.

Where we sit
Locate Jersey is free, and you should use it
Locate Jersey is the Government of Jersey's inward investment team. It gives free, confidential advice to high value residents and to businesses moving to the island, and it is a single point of contact inside government. It is a genuinely good service and nothing here is a substitute for it.
It is also, necessarily, the island's team. Its job is to attract the right people and businesses and to move applications through government. Ours is narrower and entirely one-sided: we work for you. We tell you when a property does not qualify, when a timeline will not hold, when an adviser is charging you to do work we could have done, and when the honest answer is that Jersey is the wrong island.
Our fee is fixed and agreed in writing before we start. It is not a percentage of your purchase and not an hourly rate, so it does not rise if you spend more or if the move takes longer. Where a third party offers us a commission we tell you in writing before we accept it, so you always know who is paying us for what.
What Locate Jersey covers and what it does not, and who each party in a Jersey move is actually paid by.
The six things that decide a Jersey move
Every figure below is published by gov.je or Locate Jersey and dated on the page it links to.
High Value Residency
£250,000
The minimum you commit to, every year
Not a one-off fee and not a ceiling. If your income dips below £1.25m you are deemed to have earned enough to pay it anyway.
What 2(1)(e) requiresProperty
£3.5m
And very few houses above it
The qualifying minimum for a house. On an island this size the genuinely available stock at that level can be counted on two hands.
Property requirementsResidential status
6
Statuses, and yours decides where you live
From Permanent Entitled to Standard, which replaced Registered on 14 September 2026. A job offer settles half the question and leaves the harder half untouched.
The six statusesWaiting
10 years
To reach Entitled the ordinary way
Five gets you Entitled for Work. Both need continuous, evidenced residence, which is why the paperwork starts in week one.
How status is earnedBusiness
Part 7
The licence you cannot trade without
Business Hub permission sets who may run the business and how many staff you may employ. Incorporating first tells you nothing.
The business licenceHow we are paid
Fixed
A fee that does not move with the price
Not a percentage and not an hourly rate, so we have no interest in you spending more or the move running longer. Where a third party offers us a commission we tell you in writing before we accept it.
How we workHow an engagement runs
01
A conversation, before anything is committed
Forty minutes on what you are trying to do and when. If the honest answer is that you do not need us, that is what you will hear.
02
A written plan and a fixed quote
The sequence, the people who need to be involved, what each stage costs and how long each one takes. You own the plan whether or not you engage us.
03
We run it
Applications prepared and tracked, advocates and tax advisers instructed and coordinated, agents and removers briefed, deadlines held. One point of contact, one thread.
04
The first ninety days
Registration cards, banking, GP registration, schools, driving licences, utilities, the car and the dog. The part that decides whether the move actually worked.

Questions we get asked
- Locate Jersey is free. Why would I pay you?
- Locate Jersey is free, it is good, and you should use it. It is also part of the Government of Jersey: it promotes the island and processes your application. We sit on your side of that table. We carry the admin, coordinate the advocate, the tax adviser, the agent and the removals firm, and we tell you when something is a bad idea. Plenty of people need only Locate Jersey, and we will say so on the first call.
- Do you give legal or tax advice?
- No. We are not a law firm, a tax practice or a regulated financial services business. We coordinate the regulated people who do that work, brief them properly so you are not paying an advocate to gather documents, and translate what comes back. Our regulatory position is set out in full.
- Is there a Jersey golden visa?
- No. High Value Residency is a residential status granted under the Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law 2012. It is not a visa, it does not grant citizenship, and it does not by itself give you the right to enter or remain in the Common Travel Area — immigration permission is a separate question. Sites selling "Jersey residence by investment" are describing something that does not exist under that name.
- What does it cost?
- You get a fixed quote in writing after the first conversation, once we know the shape of the move. The fee is fixed rather than a percentage, so it does not rise with the price of your house. If a third party offers us a commission on any part of your move, we tell you in writing before we accept it.
- Can you guarantee my application will be approved?
- No, and neither can anyone else. The decision rests with the Minister or the Business Hub. What we can do is make sure the application is complete, consistent and supported, and tell you honestly before you spend money if we think it is unlikely.
